Comparing Figures

In general, you can classify Electric Football action figures into three types: "Older", "67 Big Men", and the hobby's "Standard" size. While all are similar, there are slight differences in size, platform, and sculpting. The "Fab Five" refers to the five classic poses (see color chart below) most Tudor Electric Football figures share, regardless of size, platform, and sculpting.

Size

Sizes are only noticeable when you place the same figures next to each other unpainted. When painted, it's really hard to tell them apart. 67 Big Men are older-style players popular with many coaches, but they're not the mainstream players in the hobby. Standard figures are more detailed. Playing the game with different size players is fairly typical. We use the Standard Fab Five players to make our Official NFL teams.

Platform

In the old days, bases and players were one in the same. They were molded together in one piece. Modern Electric Football bases and players are separate and interchangeable. The Older, 67 Big Men, and Standard players work with modern interchangeable bases, with one exception. If you look closely you will notice a small rectangular slot in the base. This slot is to accommodate a Single Clip base. Unlike other bases which secure the figure at the front and back edges, the Single Clip bases have a single clip that extends from the center of the base upward to secure the figure. If you are a fan of the Single Clip bases, make sure you buy action figures with the rectangular Single Clip slot in the player base.

Sculpting

There are many styles of Electric Football action figures made by Tudor Games and other manufacturers. Metal player molds crank out hundreds of thousands of little men each year. In the past, these molds were used for only a single season, limited by the technology of the day. While the same Fab 5 poses were used, these yearly mold changes had an impact on the characteristics and detail of the players, causing variability. A very popular mold used in 1974-75 produced "Haiti" figures, named for the molded NFL players that were painted in Haiti at the time. These figures are detailed and well-painted and are highly sought after by collectors today. Collectors prefer our newest NFL and NCAA Army and Navy figures because of their sculpting detail and painting accuracy.

Our newest figures are called "Standard." They are highly detailed reproductions of the older Haiti figures. Sometimes you may see them referred to as "Haiti Repros." They have the rectangular slot in the platform, making them compatible with all modern Bases. While they are considered the hobby's Standard figures, they are a bit larger than the Older figures, huskier in appearance, and slightly smaller than the 67 Big Men. Our new Pro Pack Action Figures are a set of 13 new poses. They are Standard-sized with slotted platforms, and are highly detailed.

We currently offer a collection of player sets from different eras of production, but our go-forward players are the Standard and Pro Pack Electric Football Action Figures. Our Pro Line unpainted players are a limited edition of highly intricate figures, and are close to the 1:72 scale of the 67 Big Men players.

Standard Figures - The "Fab 5"

White Unpainted Fab Five Action Figures - Set of 11

There are 11 total players included in each team set. There are 5 different player poses in each set.

The first standard pose is the LINEMAN figure. You get 3 LINEMAN figures per team. Notice the LINEMAN is bent over, with elbows out to make contact with players nearby. With a lower body position than the more upright figures, the LINEMAN has a low center of gravity. This makes him less likely to get knocked over. Because his mass is spread out equally, it makes him harder to push around. Linemen are best on the offensive and defensive lines, where you want strength and the ability to push players around. Pair with strong bases and cleats.

Next is the SPRINTER figure. The SPRINTER figure makes a good wide receiver and quarterback, and works well as a safety on defense. You get 2 SPRINTER figures per team. Because of their slim design, they can be devastating as blitzing defensive linemen because they are harder to block.

You get 2 ALL PURPOSE figures per team. This player is squatting, with his arms hanging to his sides. ALL PURPOSE is very well balanced. He is a versatile figure capable of playing many positions. Use one at quarterback and the other at running back or tight end. On defense, use them as cornerbacks or defensive tackles.

The BACKER figure is the tall player standing with his hands out to his sides. You get 2 BACKER figures per team. He is often used at the offensive tackle and tight end positions on offense, and can be used at the linebacker, defensive end, and safety positions on defense. His height makes it more difficult for the TTQB (Triple Threat Quarterback) to throw over him. His wide stance offers a greater chance of an errant pass hitting him, increasing the odds of an interception.

The RUNNER figure, while intended to be a stiff-arming running back, can also be used as a slot receiver on offense. You get 2 RUNNER figures per team. On defense, they make great pass rushers at the defensive end position. They also make good cornerbacks because they can grab opposing receivers, preventing them from getting open.
